Doug stars in "Savin Up For Saturday Night" at The Grove Theatre"Authentic, romantic and loads of fun!" "Exuberant and fresh!" "Clever and tuneful!" Those are just a few of the raves that reviewers gave last year's World Premiere "honky-tonk" musical Savin' Up for Saturday Night, which opens a new run at the Grove Theatre in Upland on October 22nd. In Jeff Goode and Richard Levinson's new musical comedy, the action takes place at the "Honky-Tonk Bar 'n' Fill" under the watchful eye of "Doc," the bartender. A bunch of terrific dancers hit the floor to the music of a top-notch country band led by his old high school buddy Eldridge Preston, who seems to think he is the star of the place. But that title really should go to his ex-wife Lucinda, who used to be in Eldridge's show and can dance and sing (and party) anyone under the table. On this particular night, Eldridge is going to introduce the regulars to his newest singer and latest flame, Patsy. But nobody can predict the consequences -- least of all Doc, who by night's end might get what, or who, he's always wanted. And through it all, the music, dancing and laughs never stop. The show, directed by Jeremy Aldridge (the multi-award winning director of the recent smash Louis and Keely Live at the Sahara!) stars original cast members Brendan Hunt, an L.A. comedy legend fresh from his recent appearance on the Jimmy Fallon Show, and Courtney DeCosky, who Backstage magazine described as "remarkably charismatic... with a rarified ability to rivet an audience's attention." Joining them will be Wendi Hammock, who recently starred in the hit Orange County production of The Who's Tommy, busy voice-over actor/singer/songwriter Doug Gochman, and Rancho Cucamonga's own Rachel Howe -- returning to the Grove for the first time since her own premiere there as a child actor. Local theatergoers will also recognize some other familiar faces, when local favorites Christen Dugger (Church Basement Ladies) and Vil Towers (Peter Pan, Kiss Me, Kate!) take the leads at several of the performances. The boot-scootin' ensemble is rounded out with championship competitive partner dancers like Robert Jackson (who makes his home in LaVerne) and musical theater mainstays like Cat Yurkovich, who has performed frequently at the Candlelight Pavilion, when not in New York City high-kicking as a Radio City Music Hall Rockette! All of it is choreographed by top choreographer Allison Bibicoff (Asst. Choreographer on four-time Tony-nominated Broadway production of Xanadu), with one hot band led by John McDuffie -- taking time off from his duties as musical director for Rita Coolidge, and featuring pickers whose touring and album credits include Bonnie Raitt, Delbert McLinton, and Bette Midler... to name just a few. Even the title song has a few credits of its own, having been heard recently on several episodes of the HBO series True Blood. Savin Up for Saturday Night opens Oct. 22 at the Grove Theatre in Upland for a limited run. Call 909-920-4343 for reservations or visit www.grovetheatre.com. See y'all at the ol' "Bar 'n' Fill!" March 2010 newsAll is well with Gochman and music these days. This past month, there were gigs with 5 different bands: 1) The Feudin McCoy's, in which Doug sings and plays acoustic guitar, rocked the house at Oh Grady's in Granada Hills, CA with Classic Rock and Country covers. 2) Doug spent Valentine's Day weekend delivering singing valentine's in the barbershop style, with the Santa Monica Oceanaires. 3) Feb 16th, Doug performed with The Shaker's at The joint in LA. 4) The last week of February found Doug out at Rusty's on the pier in Santa Monica playing bass with the Cynthia Ford band. And, finally, 5) Doug played in an acoustic duo at a benefit for dog rescue group, The Dirty Dog Squad, in Venice, CA.
All this work "keeps me busy and out of trouble," claims Doug. "Between music and voice-overs, life is good..." Monday, April 28th, 2008 9:20 PM PDT
Spring/Summer 2008Hi Folks! Thanks for visiting and taking a look around the site. I've been busy lately with a lot of Voice-Over work. Check out Farmer Wants a Wife, the new reality series on The CW Network. Premiers Weds April 30th at 9pm(check local listings). I'm the on-show Voice-over announcing the "Previously On's" and the "Next time On"'s at the top and end of every episode.
Also, check out www.microsoft.com/surface to hear my narration on several short films introducing Microsoft's new "Surface" technology. I'm also narrating a short spot that appears on kiosks at a few AT & T stores in New York City and Atlanta, GA. AT & T is the first retailer to have the Surface technolgy in their stores. They may roll out to more cities, depending on how it does. Music-wise, it seems like once a month I've got some sort of gig happening in LA. Either playing solo/acoustic or with The Feudin' McCoy's, a country/classic rock cover band, or playing bass with Cynthia Ford. Check out the concert calender for more info... Spring 2008Hi Folks, Friends, Family and Fans:
It's been a while since I've updated the news here. I've been busy with Voice-over stuff lately. Haven't been playing a lot of solo gigs lately, but I have been playing with The Feudin McCoy's, playing country and classic rock covers. I've also been playing bass gigs with Cynthia Ford, with whom I also went down to Nashville to audition for Can You Duet. Didn't get picked for the show, but it was a fun, wacky experience... The new CD, "Right Onto The Track," has received some decent reviews lately. Here's what a few of the folks are saying:
"Gochman is a skillful songwriter and he delivers his homey material in a way that recalls the folksy appeal of classic country popsters like Glen Campbell..." -Music Connection "Best Western Folk Album of the Year(2005)... an avalanche of stories about life, troubadours, adventures, women, bars, ups and downs, melted into a rainbow or mesmerizing tunes which come to exist through the haunting and captivating voice of Gochman." -International News Agency "...voice, phrasing, projection and delivery remind you of Bob Dylan and Merle Haggard blended together into a Manhattan Martini." -Maximillian de Lafayette, The Buzz Sunday, December 4th, 2005 11:02 AM PST
